TypeScore ("TypeScore", "we", "us") is an online typing speed test and practice tool operated by an individual based in British Columbia, Canada. This policy explains what information we handle and your choices. Questions? Email mottoes-welter-4q@icloud.com.

The short version

The typing test runs in your browser. TypeScore is completely free and requires no account. To give you your speed stats and practice analytics, we record how you type during a test and store it against a random, anonymous ID kept in your browser — no name or email needed. We don't use advertising, cross-site tracking, or ad cookies.

What we collect

Anonymous device ID. On your first visit we generate a random identifier (a UUID) and store it in your browser's local storage. It isn't tied to your name or email and lets your stats and practice history accumulate over time without an account.
Typing telemetry. When you complete a test we record the keystrokes of that session — the characters you pressed, which were correct, and the timing between them — along with summary results (net and raw WPM, accuracy, consistency, character counts, test length, mode, and whether it was a standard test or a practice drill). We use this to show your results and to compute your practice analytics, such as your slowest key pairs. The practice text is drawn from a fixed list of common words, not text you compose yourself.
Leaderboard submissions (optional). If you choose to save a score, we store the display name you enter and that test's results, plus a general device category such as "mobile phone", "tablet", or "computer". This is shown publicly on the leaderboard. Don't enter your real name or personal information if you'd rather stay anonymous — a nickname is fine.
Technical/server data. Like any website, our host (Cloudflare) processes basic technical information such as IP address and request logs to deliver and secure the site.

Cookies and local storage

TypeScore does not run advertising or cross-site tracking, and does not set advertising cookies — so no cookie-consent banner is presented. We do use your browser's local storage for the functional anonymous ID described above. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings (doing so starts a fresh anonymous ID and disconnects your device from prior practice history).

Third-party services

Cloudflare hosts the site and our databases (including the leaderboard and typing analytics) and processes requests on its global network.

Typefaces are bundled with the site, so loading them does not send your information to a third party. We do not sell or rent your information to anyone.

Your choices and rights

You can clear your browser's local storage to reset your anonymous ID. If you'd like a leaderboard entry removed, email mottoes-welter-4q@icloud.com with the name and score, and we'll remove it.

Depending on where you live (for example, under Canada's PIPEDA and British Columbia's PIPA, the EU/UK GDPR, or similar laws), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port personal information we hold about you. Contact us at the address above to make a request.

Data retention

The leaderboard keeps only a limited number of top scores; older or lower entries are not retained. Typing telemetry and practice analytics are kept while your anonymous ID remains active so we can show your history, and raw keystroke records may be pruned periodically once they've been aggregated into your stats. You can ask us to delete your data as described above.

Children

TypeScore is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children. Please do not submit personal information through the leaderboard if you are under the age required in your region.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date above reflects the most recent change.
